With numerous recreation options, such as parks, a trail system, and 260 acres of open space, Hatfield, Pennsylvania, is a city that caters to families. Its close proximity to both large cities and rural retreats make it a great starting point for a day trip with the family.

  1. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

With Philadelphia less than 30 miles south of Hatfield, and the variety of family-friendly things offered in the city, it’s the perfect day trip. Kids will get a kick out of the interactive exhibits at the Crayola Experience and Please Touch Museum at Fairmount Park’s Memorial Hall. Learn more about our nation’s history while visiting the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Betsy Ross House, and Franklin Museum. On nice days, enjoy the fresh air while exploring the Philadelphia Zoo or taking a walk along the Schuylkill River Trail.

  1. Lakota Wolf Preserve

For a truly unique experience with the family, take a day trip to Lakota Wolf Preserve in Columbia, New Jersey, about 60 miles north of Hatfield. Take an educational guided wolf tour to spot Timber, British Columbian, and Arctic wolves and learn more about them. Listen to the howls as they echo through the mountains. As you walk along the trail, you may just spot bobcats and foxes as well. Be sure to check ahead when planning your trip, as the Preserve may temporarily close if there’s heavy snow and ice.

With so much to offer within a short drive, it’s time to plan your day trip and set off on an adventure with the family.
