If you are an avid supporter of the Land Cruiser, you’ll be pleased to know there are several upcoming changes to the 2021 SUV based on current reports.
- Power
The SUV is powered by a 5.7-liter V-8 engine supported by an 8-speed automatic transmission. The powerful engine produces 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. The SUV comes standard with four-wheel-drive and can handle off-road excursions due to features such as off-road turn assist, selectable multi-terrain driving modes, hill start assist, downhill-assist control, and crawl control.
One of the projected changes for the 2021 Land Cruiser will be the replacement of the V-8 5.7-liter with a V-6 twin-turbo engine accompanied by a 10-speed automatic gearbox for better efficiency. There is also the possibility a hybrid trim will be added to the lineup.
- Suspension
The current Land Cruiser chassis is referred to as the 200-series, which has been the standard since 2007. Reports have confirmed the 200-series will be replaced by a 300-series Land Cruiser. The new series is currently in development and scheduled to be ready for market in 2021. Reports note the Land Cruiser will retain its body-on-frame construction for the updated 2021 version.
- Interior
It’s presumed additional changes will be forthcoming for the 2021 update such as a new and more in-depth infotainment system and the inclusion of updated safety technologies such as lane-keeping assist.
Speculation is high regarding the potential changes to the iconic Land Cruiser that is expected to make an appearance with a prototype at the Tokyo Motor Show in October.
