These days, more drivers are environmentally-conscious.  And with the range of hybrid or electric vehicles emerging, they have more eco-smart options than ever before.  Toyota is leading the way in developing vehicles that rely 100 percent on electric power. But for many of us, making the “switch” from the familiar gas-powered combustion engine that’s been a “thing” for decades requires learning something new.  So here are some interesting facts about electric vehicles.  Naturally, the experts at Peruzzi Toyota can fill in any blanks – as well as providing a closer look at this exciting “next generation” of vehicles.

100% ELECTRIC

You may have heard of “hybrid” vehicles, which blend both electric and gas-powered engines.  But Toyota has been at the forefront of utilizing cutting-edge technology in electric vehicles.  They are currently developing a car that runs 100 percent on electric battery power – and produces zero emissions.

SILENCE IS GOLDEN

It might take a bit of getting used to, but minus the old combustion engine, Toyota’s electric cars are super-quiet.  Even hybrids emit a sort of “hissing” noise, but electric models are silent.  Can you imagine how peaceful a ride you could have (assuming the kids aren’t fighting in the back seat?)

SUPER-COMPACT BATTERY ENGINES

Like phones and computers, technology is allowing for great power – in ever-smaller packages.  This applies to new battery technology.  Electric cars are enjoying the most compact battery engines ever, ones that don’t take up too much room under the hood.  This allows design features that give drivers plenty of space for cargo and passengers.

ELECTRIC CARS ARE GOING FARTHER THAN EVER

Up to now, the one drawback that electric cars have versus gas engines is that they can’t go as far without “refueling.”  But that’s being addressed.  For example, Toyota has developed the “Concept-i” which can be driven for up to 186 miles before needing a battery re-charge.  And those specs are continually improving.

MORE ALL-ELECTRIC VEHICLES ARE ON THE WAY

Toyota has been investing billions into developing 100% electric vehicles, working with Panasonic to create sturdy lithium-ion batteries to power them.  They project having at least 10 all-electric models on the road by 2020 – not just cars, but minivans, SUVs and more.

When it comes to cutting-edge driving technology, Toyota remains at the forefront.  In a few years, you’re likely to see more and more 100% electric vehicles on the road – and Peruzzi Toyota will be leading the way in matching drivers to their perfect (electric) car.
