If you find yourself on the roadway during a hazardous springtime weather event would you know what to do to stay safe? Springtime inclement weather storms are common and can seem to come out of nowhere. Here is a safety check list to follow from your Toyota dealer near Philadelphia when driving during hazardous springtime weather conditions.
- Slow down and proceed with caution.
- Avoid distractions including using your cell phone.
- Keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes focused on the roadway.
- Be prepared for changing road conditions and reduced visibility.
- Turn on your headlights using your fog lights or low beams and if raining use your wipers.
- If the inside of your car windows get foggy turn on your defrost.
- Give cars additional space so you have plenty of room to stop safely.
- Be alert for downed tree branches and wires.
- Look out for flying debris if the winds are gusting.
- Approach intersections with care and if you find a stop light out follow the all way stop guidelines.
- Stay tuned in to your local radio station for updated weather alerts.
- Use your emergency flashers if you need to travel at a highly reduced speed.
- Watch for flooded roadways and shoulders and when safety is in doubt turn around and find an alternate route.
- During powerful storms you should consider getting off the roadway and seeking shelter until the storm has passed. This is especially true if there is the threat of tornados.
