Toyota 86 | Peruzzi Toyota in Hatfield PA

If you’ve been eyeing the Toyota GR 86 for a while now, 2022 is the model year to take the plunge. This fun, rear-wheel-drive affordable sports car has been re-imagined after skipping the 2021 model year. Get ready for the redesigned Toyota 86.

Engine Upgrade

The main complaint about the previous model of the GR 86 was that it didn’t offer enough horsepower. Toyota addressed this concern by putting a 2.4-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine that produces 228 horsepower in the 2022 model. That’s 23 horsepower more than the previous 2.0-liter engine. The GR 86 comes with a standard six-speed manual transmission, although a six-speed automatic transmission is available.

Interior Upgrades

It appears as though the 2022 Toyota GR 86 will see an upgraded infotainment system. The first-generation was a basic 7-inch touch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto that lacked a user-friendly interface. The overall layout of the dashboard has been reworked as a horizontally themed, driver-friendly interior. An animation sequence shows on the screen at startup, mirroring the engine’s horizontally opposed cylinders.

Safety Upgrades

The first-generation 86 had little to offer when it came to driver-assistance features, and that has changed with the 2022 model year. Standard safety features will include the forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control.

Keep your eyes peeled for the 2022 Toyota GR 86 because you won’t want to miss this one. If you’d like to learn more, including the expected release date, stop in to see the team at Peruzzi Toyota.
