How to Clean Your Car’s Upholstery
From the spilled coffee from your morning commute to muddy paw prints, courtesy of the dog park, your car’s interior takes a daily beating. Some things are easier to clean up than others but to keep your car’s inside spruced up, Peruzzi Toyota offers these helpful, easy tips.
First, know what kind of upholstery you’re dealing with. Leather is different from cloth is different from vinyl. And no matter what sort of cleaner you use (or what the label says), it’s always smart to do a spot test on a part that’s out of sight.
Start by giving your interior a thorough vacuuming. Then tackle any splotches with a clean, damp cloth to get rid of basic surface grime.
- For leather: apply a dab of leather cleaner/conditioner to a damp rag and wipe in small, overlapping circles. Make sure to work it into any cracks or crevices. Use a clean, dry rag and wipe off any excess. When it comes to leather, experts suggest repeating this process a few times a year to keep the upholstery in top shape.
- For vinyl: this surface is similar to leather, in that it cleans up somewhat easily. Start with a damp cloth and a vinyl-approved cleanser. Dirtier surfaces may require an assist from a soft brush. And, like leather, it’s a good idea to repeat this process a few times a year.
- For cloth upholstery: headrests and armrests take a daily beating. Spray stains directly, and let the cleanser penetrate. Now, blot with a clean, damp cloth. It’s not a bad idea to leave car windows down to help fabric dry thoroughly. Another cleaning option is to sprinkle a tough stain with baking soda and salt and let it sit: then spray a combo soda onto it, and scrub that stain away.
Of course, if those options don’t quite do it, renting a steam cleaner with an upholstery attachment is the next step. Be careful not to oversteam or saturate cloth fabric or you may end up with mildew. You may need to do some repeat-steaming every few days to finally knock those stains out.
A little attention and care is all that’s needed to keep your car’s interior looking spiffy! If you’re looking for someone to take care of those stains for you, look no further than the service experts at Peruzzi Toyota. Safer Driving This Winter
Driving in the winter can be intimidating and dangerous, especially in the northern states. Icy, slippery roads and poor visibility can increase your risk of getting into an accident. As such, it’s important that you exercise extra caution. Here are several tips that can help you stay safe on the road this winter.
Practice Winter Driving
Practicing winter driving is especially necessary if you have little or no experience driving in cold weather conditions. Find an empty lot and slowly practice different maneuvers on ice and snow, such as accelerating, braking, and steering into a skid. Find out how your brakes work on an icy surface and take note of your car’s stopping distances at different speeds.
Prevent Accidents
Driving slowly is the best way to prevent accidents in winter weather. Accelerate and brake slowly to improve traction and avoid skidding. Always practice threshold braking when stopping. Place your heel on the floor and apply steady, firm pressure on the brake pedal with the ball of your foot. Also, avoid using the parking brake during winter whenever possible. When you‘re following another car, you should try to stay eight to 10 seconds behind it. Since visibility can be very poor when it snows, you need to stay alert always. Keep an eye on other vehicles and pedestrians around you.
Safe winter driving begins with the condition of your car. Make sure it’s properly winterized before you hit the road.

A Guide to Wiper Blades
Besides keeping your windshield clean, wiper blades also serve the important function of improving visibility. They are especially useful if you live in an area with heavy rain or snowfall, or high dust levels. Here’s a guide to wiper blades.
When to Replace Your Wiper Blades
The longevity of wiper blades can vary significantly depending on their quality, use patterns, weather conditions, and other factors. Usually, they can work effectively for at least six months. Check your wiper blades every now and then to determine if they need to be replaced. Lift each blade up and run your finger along the rubber edge. If the rubber is chipped or rigid, or squeaks continuously, it’s time to get new wiper blades.
Choosing the Right Wiper Blades
Before you start shopping, you have to know the size and type of wiper blades you need to purchase. If you’re unsure about the size, you can measure your old blades, check your owner’s manual, or seek advice at an auto-parts store.
There are basically two types of wiper blades: traditional and beam blades. A traditional blade consists of a steel superstructure, blade claws, and a rubber wiping element, while a beam blade comprises of an aerodynamic spoiler, curved steel beam, and interminable pressure points. Beam wiper blades are a better option if you own a recent car model, because they’re specially designed for the highly curved windshields of modern vehicles. Additionally, they contain fewer moving parts, making them less vulnerable to damage.
The most expensive wiper blades aren’t necessary the best options. Read reviews and choose products that offer good value for your money.
