What Makes Your Car More Efficient?
If you’re looking for a new car, then most likely mileage is one of the top items on your checklist. Getting MPGs is one thing, but knowing how to get
them can help you shop, too. Here we cover what technologies to look for in your new engine to get the most from your fuel.
Direct Fuel Injection
Maximum Boost: 3%
In older engines, fuel was mixed with air before it even entered the cylinder chamber. This is what led to “knocking.” With direct injection, fuel is better regulated and sprayed into the cylinder before air is introduced. This means that when the fuel combusts, it has higher force and uses less fuel at the same time.
Turbo and Supercharging
Maximum Boost: 6%
In order for the fuel to fire, it needs oxygen. Typical engines have air intake valves to make this happen, but turbochargers force more air into the cylinder, which creates a bigger boost from the same amount of fuel. As a result, an engine has more power without just adding more gas.
Cylinder Management
Maximum Boost: 10%
More recently, engines have developed to the point that individual cylinders can be “turned off.” Conventional engines have all cylinders firing at the same rate, but driving on the highway doesn’t require the same power as going up a steep hill. This technology allows a V6 to temporarily become a four-cylinder.
Variable Valve Timing
Maximum Boost: 11%
One of the most common technologies in today’s engines, this works largely the same way as with the cylinders. Instead of lifting and lowering the valves that control airflow into the engine in a fixed way, these valves can tailor their work to the power needed by the engine.
Over the last few years, a lot of the automotive news has been dominated by safety recalls. Essentially, some of the features designed to protect have
been misbehaving. The result is that more and more companies are doubling down on safety. So what will the cars of tomorrow look like?
Original, But Better
Obviously, the first place most companies are focusing is on improving existing technology. It’s likely, for example, that within the next ten years you’ll see even more advanced airbags, including external airbags to protect pedestrians. Similarly, laser-based headlights and night vision devices are expected to make their debuts to improve the basics of reaction time.
Loss of Control?
It’s not all about the driver, though. Recently, some vehicles have reached zero fatality rates because of safety features that respond on their own. Automatic braking and adjustments will become standard features, using radar and sonar to detect potential collisions. However, this is also likely to extend to lane departure and other areas where your car will react before you even know what’s going on.
The Hack Attack
Possibly the biggest challenge facing automakers in the future is the ability for cars to be hacked. Even now, hackers can access and control your car’s systems. As cars get more sophisticated, they are also more interconnected. The next phase of infotainment will absolutely include defenses to keep people from being able to turn your engine off while you’re on the highway or take over your cruise control system.

With everyone heading out on summer road trips, your local Pennsylvania Toyota dealership wants to inform families on appropriate child seat installation and use. A little known fact, three quarters of all children’s car seats are incorrectly installed. This is perhaps the leading contributor to the high child mortality rate in car accidents, which is one of the leading causes of childhood mortality in the U.S. This can easily be significantly reduced through the proper installation and fastening of child seats into the car.
In order to ensure that your child is safely buckled in, make sure the seat does not wiggle more than an inch once strapped in. Follow all the guidelines in your child seat manufacturer’s installation manual to ensure that you are not improperly installing the seat. When buckling your child into the seat, be sure to remove any bulky or loose clothing, as this may give an illusion of the straps being tight, however upon the impact of a collision, will compress which could lead to the injury of your child. By the same token, you should also not pad the seat with excess padding or towels.
Finally, as your child grows, routinely check the guidelines of their child seat to ensure that it still offers them optimum protection for the height and weight. If they exceed the guidelines, replace the old car seat with a new one. This should be continued until your child can properly wear a seatbelt without the need of a booster, which could be as late as age 12 or 13.
It is that time of year again; road trip season. Here at your local Hatfield Toyota dealership, we want to give you some helpful insights about how best to make any upcoming road trips your family embarks on into cherished memories. Much of this is accomplished through proper preparation and careful planning ahead of time.
- Plan Ahead: With google maps it is easy to sit down and identify potential routes and travel times. If you have small children, you will likely want to travel intentionally, picking rest areas and towns to stop over in for potty breaks and burn off any excess energy built up through a couple hours of sitting. Sprinkle your trip with fun stopovers and remember, road trips are as much about the journey as the destination.
- Food, Food, Food: Road tripping is all about sharing snacks, picnics and eating on the run. If you are road tripping on a budget, you’ll want to pre-make your food. Carrots, berries, grapes, and crackers make excellent healthy snacks that won’t break the bank. You may want to pre-portion these with younger children to avoid squabbles over who gets how much.
- Accident Prevention and Safety: Last, but certainly not least, you’ll want to get your car checked out to ensure that the hoses and belts are all in good condition and check that the oil and tires are in excellent condition prior to embarking upon your summer adventures. Finally, if you are traveling with small children, be certain to ensure that they have the appropriate child car seat. You can get your Toyota inspected free of charge here at the Hatfield Toyota dealership and we’ll ensure that your car’s performance offers your family the opportunity to enjoy the road trip.

With all of the innovations over just the last few years, cars have gone far beyond just seatbelts and airbags. In fact, today’s cars are safer than ever largely because of computers and automated systems running throughout your car. Your Pennsylvania Toyota dealership talks you through the most essential safety equipment.
Seatbelts
The most essential of all safety features, the humble seatbelt is credited with saving hundreds of thousands of lives every year. The triple-anchored seatbelt is being looked at by several companies for improvements, but that’s a long way off.
Airbags
One of the most changed pieces of safety equipment, the airbag has been given quite a makeover. Intelligent airbags use sensors in the seat and the engine in order to detect the size, weight, and even posture of a passenger and adapt the deployment pressure accordingly. Dual-stage or multi-stage airbags do something similar. These deploy once for central impact and again for residual impact. Add to this curtain, side, knee, and even seatbelt airbags, and you’re safer than you’ve ever been.
Area Alerts
Along with sensors in the car are sensors around the car. Radar and laser detectors can tell you when someone is in your blindspot, when someone is about to cut you off, and when a front collision is about to happen, even if you can’t see it. These alerts are incredibly useful and have drastically decreased accidents.
Automated Stopping
The most recent addition is a system that applies brakes before you can when one of those alerts is triggered. This can mean a rear or frontal collision, but what’s more impressive is that cars armed with these kinds of systems have reached zero fatalities.
Peruzzi Toyota Has the 2015 Tundra
Once upon a time, it was enough to have a truck with a bed. That’s all you needed. These days, though, the pickup is much more than a work vehicle.
Today it’s the family vehicle as well as the crew’s transportation. Toyota has changed with the times and presents the 2015 Tundra from your Toyota dealer in the Trenton Area.
Muscle
The Tundra begins with a 4.6-liter V8 engine. Using a combination of variable valve timing, multi-point fuel injection, and six-speed automatic transmission it’s able to deliver 310 horsepower and 327 pounds of torque. With four-wheel drive and manual transmission mode, it can handle over 1,300 pounds in payload and 6,500 pounds in towing capacity.
Comfort
With four doors and seating for five, the Tundra comes with heated mirrors, power windows and locks, cruise control, climate control, microfiltration, and a six-speaker audio system with AM/FM/CD/MP3 playback, SiriusXM readiness, and Bluetooth connectivity for streaming and hands-free calling.
Safety
Meanwhile, keeping your crew safe is Toyota’s smart stop technology that manages the four-wheel, anti-lock, ventilated disc brakes to let you stop when you need to. Add to that electronic traction and stability control that adjusts to slick conditions and your truck can adapt faster than you can. Finally, intelligent airbags in the front adapt to crash conditions and are augmented by side and curtain bags for the rest of the cabin.
Still Need More?
If you still need more space and power, the Tundra CrewMax is also available, weighing in at 5.7 liters and eight cylinders with the most space in the cabin.
