Japan is taking a look to the future with the development of a prototype city powered by hydrogen fuel cells. The living laboratory will be known as Woven City.
City Planning
Toyota plans to build this working city, which will be known as Woven City, on 175 acres along the base of Mt. Fuji and it will serve as an active laboratory for the creation of futuristic technology. The city will house researchers as well as residents responsible for developing the technology.
City Focus
The goal of the prototype city is to provide a place where testing and development of areas such as personal mobility, robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), smart homes, and autonomy take place in a controlled environment. Testing and development of future technologies will be on-going. This will be possible because the city’s infrastructure will be connected on all levels, allowing researchers to monitor and test the technology firsthand.
City Design
Woven City will be fully sustainable, using natural wood for buildings, and solar panels and hydrogen fuel cells to supply energy. Residences will be equipped with cutting edge technology such as sensor-based AI to monitor daily living, and fully autonomous vehicles with zero-emission imprints. The futuristic city will also include an expansive central park and neighborhood parks. Homes in Woven City will be populated by Toyota employees, retirees, visiting scientists, retired couples, and retailers. The first steps in groundbreaking are planned for the beginning of 2021 with an initial 2,000 people.
If living in the Woven City sounds like an opportunity not to be ignored, keep current on the latest comings and goings and sign up for the team.
