Toyota has long been a leader in the newest technologies for cars. The Prius model is king of the hybrids, and the Mirai is taking fuel-cell powered vehicles to the next level. However, the automotive manufacturer has been waiting on developing a fully-electric car. That’s about to change as Toyota just announced its first electric SUV. Peruzzi Toyota in Hatfield, PA has the details.
The all-electric SUV will first be rolled out in Europe in the next few months. The reason? Europe’s tougher emission standards have allowed the automaker to improve their technology before jumping into the American market. Andrea Carlucci, Toyota Europe’s director of product and marketing states, “… hybrid success has given us the foundation we need, for other electrified powertrains – which will be introduced when the time, the market, and the infrastructure are right. And that time is getting closer.”
On that note, the automaker states that a solid-state battery pack is close at hand (in fact, ahead of their original target of 2025). This bit of news is really exciting, because the new pack will charge faster and take the vehicle farther than the traditional lithium-ion batteries currently in use. In fact, Toyota plans to roll out 60 new electrified vehicles within the next few years (that includes those that are hybrids and hydrogen fuel-cell-powered).
As to exactly when the first fully-electric Toyota vehicles will hit our shores, that’s still under wraps. But the announcement of the European roll-out brings us a little bit closer. Once they are available, you’ll be able to check them out up close at Peruzzi Toyota’s showroom in Hatfield.
In the meantime, you can still enjoy cutting-edge technology and eco-friendly fuel-efficiency with the current Toyota line of hybrids. Peruzzi has a full line of vehicles to suit your particular driving needs. Let us show you what’s available!
