car theftWith all of the things that we have to worry about these days, you wouldn’t think that car theft would be one of them. It’s true, though. Last year alone, nearly 700,000 cars were stolen. How do you defend yourself? Your Hatfield Area Toyota dealer wants to to tell you.

Common Sense

You’d be amazed how many people still don’t lock their vehicles. It’s also the first line of defense against thieves. Likewise, never leave your keys inside your car and never, ever leave it running unattended, no matter how short your stop will be.

Where You Park

It should go without saying that parking in a garage is preferable to parking on a street. If you don’t have a garage or access to one that is secure, do everything you can to park on streets that are well lit and well travelled. Parking underneath a street lamp for example can greatly reduce your risk.

Visible Deterrents

Items like “The Club” may not be entirely effective at keeping someone from stealing your car, but it is effective in getting thieves to keep moving. Having a visible security sticker, light, or device can make a thief think twice about trying.

Actual Security

There’s no replacement for actual security. Make sure you have a security system that works and will get noticed. Newer systems will link to a phone so that you can monitor it no matter where you are.

The Extra Mile

If you’re willing, driving a manual transmission is one of the best ways to thief-proof your vehicle.
