With the introduction of the Prius in 1997, Toyota showed that they were an early leader in hybrid and electric vehicles. Now the company takes another very big step forward. Peruzzi Toyota in Hatfield, PA proudly offers a full line of hybrids, and is excited to share what’s going on.

Toyota’s just announced a $1.3 billion dollar investment in its Kentucky facility, with a focus on electric vehicles. Part of that investment will find its way into building a new three-row all-electric SUV for American customers. Currently, an EV Urban SUV is available in Europe; a Sport Crossover will be rolled out there by next year. The three-row electric SUV will show up in the states likely around the same time.

Because the battery is the essential ingredient in electric vehicles, Toyota is going big in that department. Currently, their North Carolina plant makes them; the Kentucky plant is gearing up a brand-new battery pack assembly line.

Their EV batteries themselves are also scheduled for a big upgrade. Toyota is working to develop three EV battery ranges that are both better performing and a lot more affordable (currently, EV batteries for any vehicle cost anywhere from $6,500 to $20,000). These are slated to be available by 2026.

Additionally, Toyota is hard at work on the company’s first solid-state battery. This is a big deal because it will have the ability to charge an EV from 10 to 80 percent in about 10 minutes. Right now, the average is about 30 minutes.

This news shows how Toyota is working to maintain a leadership position in the EV industry. In the meantime, take advantage of the existing hybrids you’ll find at Peruzzi Toyota.
