Vehicles with new technology can be very exciting but also overwhelming if you’re not familiar with how to operate innovations like Toyota’s smart key/push start button system. Here are a few tips to help you get started. Once you’ve got these under your belt, you’ll be a pro at using the smart key.

Easily Find Your Key

Keep the smart key with you at all times and in a convenient place so that you can easily unlock your car’s doors. It doesn’t matter where you keep it, though. It can be in your pocket, purse, or bag. To know whether the car has sensed the key or not, courtesy lights inside the car should turn on if the car has indeed sensed the key.

Easily Unlock Your Vehicle

To unlock the door, simply touch the inside surface of the front door handle. You’ll know that the door has been unlocked when you hear the beeping sounds that will ensue. Touch the two grooves on the front door handle’s top to lock the door. The trunk will unlock when you push the trunk button.

Easily Start Your Vehicle

To start your car, the Smart Key should be in the car and the shifter in PARK. Remember you placed your key in a pocket, purse, or bag. Push down on the brake and press the push start button. To switch off the engine, put the vehicle in PARK and push the button again.

The Smart Key and push start button are easy and convenient features to use. You just have to get into the habit of using them correctly.

If you want to protect your Tacoma’s cargo with a full Tonneau cover, you have several options to consider. Check out the different types to consider when picking one out.

Appearance

Most Tonneau covers for trucks are black, but some come in as many colors as the Tacoma itself, so you can choose one that perfectly matches your model. There are also diamondback covers with a pure metallic look. Even among regular black Tonneau covers you’ll find options that are more matte or glossy or have subtle textures.

Roll or Flip

Some tonneau covers are soft and are designed to roll up from the back in order to open. Others are hard and broken into segments you can flip upward in the back or front. Soft covers commonly use velcro, while hard covers use a series of hinges to flip back portions of the material. The number of combinations is staggering, so take your time when shopping, and don’t settle on the first thing you see.

Electric or Manual

Most people opt for a manual Tonneau cover that they open or close by hand. There are options, however, that use some sort of remote control to gradually retract or replace the cover, like a horizontal garage door. The nice thing about electric covers is that they’re usually independent of the tailgate, meaning you don’t have to open or unlock it to open or close the cover.

There are a lot of choices when it comes to weather-resistant full bed covers. If you have questions about your options and would like some help, don’t hesitate to contact us.

When taking your car for an oil change, you’ve probably seen the option for synthetic oil. Synthetic oil is a replacement for regular oil that provides a higher level of performance. However, not all cars require synthetic oil, so it’s important to learn more about this fluid before adding it to your vehicle.

The Difference Between Synthetic and Conventional

Conventional motor oils are what most people use in their cars today. They are created by using a base mixed with various chemical additives to protect a vehicle’s engine.

Synthetic oils, on the other hand, are based on a formula created by scientists in a lab. This solution is distilled, purified, and refined to create a substance that provides better protection and performance than standard oil.

Benefits of Synthetic Oil

Synthetic oil is great for reducing the buildup of deposits and debris in your engine. Because of this, it protects your engine from wear. It can also flow better than regular oil when the temperature drops or rise, as well as protect turbocharger parts.

When to Use Synthetic Oil

If your car is older, there’s probably no benefit to switching to synthetic at this point. But if you use your car for short trips or live in an area with extreme hot or cold, synthetic oil can do a good job of protecting your car.

Still not certain if you should add synthetic oil to your car? Stop by Peruzzi Toyota to talk with our experts and get the best advice for maintaining your vehicle.

When you think of common maintenance for a vehicle, the first things that come to mind are probably oil changes and inspections. However, tire rotation should not be far behind these. Rotating your tires on a regular basis has a number of benefits that will improve your driving experience.

Tires Wear Unevenly

Even if you’re the most careful driver in the world, your tires will still wear unevenly. For example, front tires tend to see more abuse on the outside edges, as going around curves puts more pressure on this area. Unless you rotate these tires on a regular basis, the front tires will wear out much faster, causing you to need tires much sooner than you otherwise would.

Tires Become Noisy

Unsurprisingly, when tires aren’t even on the surface of the road, they’ll make a lot more noise. While you might be able to ignore the vibrations for a while, they’ll become more pronounced the longer you let it go. Not only is this annoying, but it can damage other parts of the vehicle.

Tires Could Skid or Slide

Aside from being a money pit and a major annoyance, tires that have worn unevenly also pose a safety risk .They are much more likely to lose traction on slippery surfaces, meaning you could slide out of control and get into an accident.

Because Peruzzi Toyota has a full-service tire center, we’re the perfect place for a quick tire rotation. While you’re waiting, you can even browse our stock of new and used vehicles to see if there’s a car that will better meet your needs.

Sometimes when you’re on the road, the allure of pushing your gas tank farther and farther towards empty is too much to resist. But just how far can you drive once your gauge hits that bottom line? It varies with the model and age of vehicle, but there are a few principles that might be able to help you determine the answer.

Fuel Gauges Aren’t Always Accurate

As the procrastinators probably know, the fuel gauge isn’t always 100 percent reliable. Car Throttle set out to prove this by driving a Honda Accord to the breaking point. They were able to push that car 99 extra miles after the gauge hit 0 — proof that you can go a bit farther than you might have thought.

Calculate Your Car’s Reserve Fuel

In most cars, the low fuel warning is triggered whenever the fuel tank reaches the reserve levels. In most cars, the reserve fuel level is about 10 to 15 percent of the total amount the tank can hold.

Take a 2013 Toyota Corolla as an example, which can hold 13.2 gallons. Estimating a 10 percent reserve, that means that you’d have 1.3 gallons left when the light comes on, which equates to 37.7 miles using the car’s average mpg estimates.

Of course, if you find yourself always on empty, it might be time to move to a car with a bigger gas tank. Stop by Peruzzi Toyota to browse our selection of cars with superior mpg ratings that will make your commute less of a gas hog.

While saving money is probably a top priority for most people, there are some occasions where it pays to spend a little more. In particular, buying tires is one of these instances. Here are several reasons why you should never try to save money by buying used tires.

Used Tires Can Be Unsafe

One problem with buying used tires is that you don’t know where they came from. The tires could have been driven at unsafe speeds or even been chronically underinflated or overinflated. This damage might not show on a quick physical inspection, meaning that your used tires could suddenly explode or deflate without warning.

Used Tires Are More Expensive

Many people are drawn in by the lower sticker price of used tires. However, when you take into account the cost of tire mounting and balancing, the prices begin to add up. For example, say you pay half price for a set of tires that have about half the tread left.

This might save you money in the short term, but you’ll have to keep paying a mounting and balancing fee more often because used tires don’t last as long as new tires. When you do the math, new tires often come in below the price of the used tires, as they offer a greater total tread life.

If you do find yourself in need of new tires, stop by Peruzzi Toyota to get the best tires for your Toyota. Better yet, upgrade your entire vehicle by choosing from our wide selection of new cars.
