Winter can be a big problem for vehicle owners. Not only are road conditions more troublesome, the snow and cold temperatures can wreak havoc on the condition of your Hatfield new or used Toyota. It is a driver’s responsibility to do the right thing for their vehicle during the cold winter months to protect their vehicles from unnecessary damage.

The cold temperatures can do a number on your engine especially when it is not in use. It is important to have your radiator flushed completely and the appropriate amount of antifreeze to protect your engine. Other maintenance checks should be done to the overall engine to ensure the battery is strong, all connections are secured, and hoses and belts are not showing signs of damage or wear.

Cold temperatures of winter also require that vehicle owners maintain at least a half tank full of gas to prevent condensation from getting into the fuel tank and freezing. A tank full of gas will also help weigh down the vehicle giving you more traction. Slick roads may also require that you add more weight to your truck or cargo space. You can add a bag of sand and keep emergency supplies for accidents or breakdowns.

You can utilize a silicone spray on your locks to prevent them from freezing. If you don’t keep your vehicle in a garage overnight and ice develops on the windshield, never use hot water to remove ice. An ice scraper and the internal heater can help make ice removal more effective. Hot water can damage the window glass.
