Toyota just achieved an impressive milestone: during the second quarter of this year, the automaker outsold the mighty General Motors for the first time since 1998! From April through June, nearly 689,000 vehicles were sold in America, beating analysts’ expectations. That number tops GM’s number of just over 688,000 in sales – and Peruzzi Toyota in Hatfield, PA is proud to have been a part of this big achievement.

This last year has been challenging for every automaker for one big reason: the all-important semiconductor chip, which is crucial to operating everything from safety features to onboard “infotainment” panels, was in short supply. Toyota, however, was far more nimble in handling this global shortage. Jessica Caldwell, Executive Director of Insights at the online auto resource, Edmunds, notes that Toyota has a long tradition of seeing further down the road regarding their supply chain. Thus, they know how to manage lower inventories. Additional reports indicate that Toyota wisely had been stockpiling these chips, allowing them to maintain production.

Of course, another reason for Toyota’s impressive sales achievement is the reputation for safety and quality. While Toyota didn’t comment on the chip issue, they offered the following statement on their sales achievement: “We are grateful to our loyal customers for putting their safety and trust in Toyota and Lexus vehicles.  Our focus has always been – and will continue to be – on being the best brand in terms of safety and quality in our customers’ minds.  And as part of our continuous improvement philosophy, we are always finding better ways of doing things, and ultimately make better products our customers love and trust.”
