Toyota FT-4X Concept

Appealing to the millennial market seems to be a tactic that every company across every industry is trying out these days. With the unveiling of their new concept car the FT-4X, Toyota is throwing their hat into the millennial ring in a big way. Debuting last month at the New York Auto Show, the FT-4X Concept was created by Toyota’s Calty design shop with the millennial urban professional in mind, for those who need a vehicle to navigate their everyday city lives but also love spur-of-the-moment, casual outdoor adventures.

The name of the FT-4X is short for “Future Toyota Four-Wheel Drive Crossover.” It’s a vehicle that achieves its “rugged charm” by somehow being both boxy and sleek, both utilitarian and luxurious. This emphasis on stylish functionality will appeal to those who enjoy the “casualcore” lifestyle – a term used by Toyota to describe the millennial shift from lengthy outdoor treks to brief, spontaneous journeys.

Once you look closer at the details of the FT-4X, it almost seems to be more Swiss army knife than car. Among the more unique features are a GoPro camera inside the driver’s side mirror, a central armrest that becomes a sleeping bag, a ceiling light that becomes a flashlight, a sound system that becomes a boombox, and inside door handles that become water bottles. Even if you hadn’t planned on a camping trip, this vehicle gives you pretty much no choice but to get out into the wild.

Keep in mind that the FT-4X is only a concept car, meaning that it’s just a design at this stage, with no definite plans of making it to production. If Toyota does decide to produce the FT-4X, however, you can be sure that you’ll be able to find one at Peruzzi Toyota.
