Some Myths About Hybrid Cars

Over the last couple of decades, cars have been moving away from the standard internal combustion engine that’s been around forever. Electric cars are getting plenty of buzz, but in the middle is the “hybrid,” which combines both gas and electric power. Even though Toyota introduced their beloved Prius in the late 90s – and they’ve gotten even better since then -- many consumers still harbor misconceptions about hybrid vehicles. Peruzzi Toyota in Hatfield, PA is here to clear up some of those myths. HYBRIDS HAVE TO BE PLUGGED IN Not necessarily. While there are some plug-in hybrids that offer a longer driving range, many hybrids typically utilize another power method. Regular hybrids combine gasoline and tools like “regenerative braking” to capture electrical energy and keep the engine juiced up. HYBRIDS ARE SUPER-EXPENSIVE When hybrids first arrived on the scene, they were in fact more costly than “normal” cars (aren’t all “new” things?). But that was then. Now, hybrids are priced along the lines of many internal combustion vehicles. HYBRIDS COST A TON TO REPAIR Actually, hybrids utilize many of the same parts as a regular vehicle and have compatibility with typical auto parts. The only part that may be more costly versus “normal” cars is replacing the battery. HYBRIDS ARE TRICKY TO DRIVE Driving a hybrid is really no different than driving an internal combustion engine (ICE) car. They’re built on the same kinds of frames and suspension, so the “feel” behind the wheel is the same. The one thing that might take a little getting used to is that they’re so much quieter than gas-powered vehicles. Like, a lot quieter. HYBRIDS HAVE NO “GET UP AND GO” Some assume that a hybrid doesn’t have the “oomph” of a gas-powered engine. In truth, the electric drivetrain in a hybrid adds a pretty impressive kick to the gas side. For example, Toyota’s RAV4 Prime ( available at Peruzzi Toyota) is among one of the brand’s fastest vehicles. HYBRIDS DON’T REALLY HELP THE ENVIRONMENT Sure, hybrids still burn some fossil fuels – and that’s not optimal for Mother Earth. But they burn far less than ICE’s. Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good: until we’re fully into electric or hydrogen-cell vehicles, hybrids can still support the environment in an important way (and save you money on gas!). Got more questions about hybrids? We’re always happy to give you the lowdown at Peruzzi Toyota in Hatfield, PA!

Smarter Car Shopping (Supply Chain Edition)

We’ve all heard about the issues with the supply chain. Yes, the slowdown of goods is impacting everything from Christmas presents and meat to cars. And then, there’s the inflation factor. From an economic standpoint, now isn’t the best time to buy -- but when you need a new car, well, you need a new car. Peruzzi Toyota in Hatfield, PA is here to help you navigate this process of “pandemic shopping.” SHOP AROUND (EVEN MORE THAN USUAL) Automobile stock is limited right now, and tends to fly off the showroom floor as soon as it comes in. Don’t let that discourage you. Peruzzi Toyota is happy to keep you up to date with what we have or when new vehicles are coming in. And as we always do, we’ll be completely transparent on the best deals that we can offer. But during this especially weird time, it’s not a bad idea to check with other dealers, too. Another upside to shopping around is that the longer you can wait, the more likely you are to nab a good deal. BE FLEXIBLE If you really need a new ride during this unpredictable time, expand your options in order to save money. Maybe something smaller (and cheaper) that will deliver better gas mileage (and savings at the pump)? Perhaps a reliable used car will do the trick. Peruzzi Toyota has a whole fleet of thoroughly inspected rides that will last you for years. CULTIVATE PATIENCE Getting a new vehicle for a decent price isn’t quite as easy as it was a year or three ago. That’s just an economic reality. Taking your time to shop around, shift your expectations and staying in touch with the friendly staff at Peruzzi Toyota will pay off. There are always ways to find a great car, truck, or SUV and we’re here to help you do it!

Big News! Toyota Poised to Beat GM In Sales

For decades, GM has reigned over the auto market, dominating in the full-year sales category for the last (wait for it) 90 years. But that may be about to change, as it appears that Toyota is set to take the top spot in yearly sales for 2021. According to third-quarter reports, Toyota has outsold GM – and that trend looks to continue into 2022. Peruzzi Toyota in Hatfield, PA, a proud member of the Toyota family, explains how the company is achieving this landmark. For the third quarter, Toyota is expected to notch 1,857,884 units in the sales column; by comparison, GM sold over 80,000 less. That’s a remarkable achievement and gives Toyota an edge approaching the new sales year. So, what’s to account for the lead? Besides the quality and stylishness of Toyota vehicles, there’s smart planning. The shortage of the microchips that operate nearly everything in today’s vehicles has severely impacted production for many automakers, even while demand for new cars is up. However, Toyota had a taste of “shortages” several years back in the wake of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan. That devastating event caused the company to rethink their process. "What we learned from the earthquake is we needed to carry more inventory of slow-moving parts — and chips were one of the commodities we identified early on," Executive Vice President of Sales at Toyota Motor North America Bob Carter told Automotive News. Adding to the sales race between GM and Toyota is that the highly anticipated new edition of the Toyota Tundra will be out shortly. The hot new Tundra will be available at Peruzzi Toyota in Hatfield very soon. But there are so many other sleek, powerful models to browse in our showroom. Whether you need a fun vehicle like the Camry to zip around town in or something sturdier, like the 4-Runner for weekend off-roading, we’ve got you covered!
