Are you planning a family road trip vacation this summer? Road trips can be lots of fun and a great way for your family to enjoy each other’s company. Your Allentown Toyota dealer wants to help you with your road trip preparation and recommends the following survival tips.

Tune Up Before You Go

First, make sure you make an appointment to have your car serviced before you go. Get the oil changed, tires rotated and any other maintenance work that is needed. A breakdown while on route can almost always be prevented with a pre-trip maintenance check up.

Know Your Route

Next, before you hit the road plan out what route you will take. Even if you plan to use your GPS you should still have a general idea of where you are going. If you belong to AAA you may want to pick up state and local maps and tour books of the areas you will be visiting.

What to Pack

Create a packing list so that you don’t miss any road trip essentials. It is a good idea to pack drinks and snacks for the road, pillows for passenger comfort as well as books, music and other traveling activities. You may also want to throw in Kleenex, sanitizing wipes, small garbage bags and paper towels. Your car will be your home while on the roadway and you want to make it comfortable.

Be Safe

Before hitting the road do a safety check. Make sure seatbelts are working, infant and child safety seats are properly installed and have a road site emergency kit and a first aid kit on board.

Frequent Breaks Are Essential

Finally, once you hit the road make sure you have time planned for frequent breaks. Getting out to stretch and walk around every few hours is important to keep your circulation flowing and to help keep the driver alert.
